Project RockChain
About the project
One of the main goals of the RockChain project is aimed at innovative training focused on the implementation of blockchain for waste management in the stone industry.
The project duration is two years, and one of the main activities is the creation of interoperability between the management of waste generated in stone production and blockchain technology as a database that will make it easier for stakeholders in the stone industry to manage waste with the help of innovative technologies.
Digital technologies will be the fundamental basis for economic and social development in the 21st century. That is why it is necessary to make full use of the potential that new technologies offer for the benefit of a more sustainable economy, both for society and for the environment.
The RockChain project has been created under the concept of creating a basic training for vocational education students, technicians and professionals in the stone and construction sector and those involved in waste management, in which the potential use of combining new technology such as blockchain helps to create a database with the purpose of management of the stone industry waste.
Main project activities:
- Creation of methods and procedures for stone waste management based on the concepts of
circular self-sustainable economy – European common curriculum on waste management
using blockchain technology for the architectural and building stone industry - Creation of a new interactive digital tool based on blockchain technology for waste
management - Adjustments of participants to innovative technologies and new digital competences, as well
as to new regulations related to self-sustainable economy, environment, climate change and
resources needed in the stone industry - Creation of a curriculum and specialization program for training adults in waste management
and IT for the stone industry - Creation of RockChain Open Educational Resource (OER)
- Pilot RockChain courses for professionals, teachers and students.
- Presentation seminars for the proposal of the e-GuidelineRockChain project, which will be
translated into the languages of the project partners
Project partners:
CTM – AsociaciónEmpresarial de InvestigaciónCentroTecnológico del Mármol, Piedra y Materiales (Spain), KSK – Klesarska Škola (Croatia), DNV – German Natural stoneAssociation (Germany), UNIVERSITATEA TRANSILVANIA DIN BRASOV – UniTBV (Romania).

Kick-off meeting in Murcia
On November 23, 2023, principal Tamara Plastić and teacher Silvana Ursić participated in the first kick-off meeting of the RockChain project in Murcia, Spain. Representatives of all partners and holders of the project (DNV, CTM, Klesarska škola and UniTBV) agreed on the initial steps aimed at implementation of project activities.
The project duration is set for two years, and one of the main activities is to create interoperability between the management of the waste generated in stone production and blockchain technology as a database that will make it easier for stakeholders in the stone industry to manage waste with the help of innovative technologies.
The first seminar to be held in Croatia was agreed upon, with the purpose of presenting the project and networking of important stakeholders from different countries as well as creating of the specialization curriculum for training adults in waste management and IT for the stone industry.
The first steps were also agreed, with the purpose of writing a joint curriculum on waste management using Blockchain technology for the stone industry and a guide to help experts facilitating mitigation of the environmental impact caused by waste in the stone industry.
